in vitro	Sennoside A, a kind of irritant laxative isolated from rhei rhizome, causes purgative actions in the intestine through regulating the spontaneous motility of colon. It mildly inhibits bovine serum monoamine oxidase with IC50 of 17 μM.
in vivo	LD50: Mice 5000 mg/kg (i.g.); Rats 5000mg/kg (i.g.).
